Information
Vitamin D stimulates the absorption of calcium and phosphorus in the intestine and helps maintain normal levels of calcium in the blood. In addition, Vitamin D contributes to the normal function of the immune system.
To prevent rickets and Vitamin D deficiency in infants, children and adolescents the recommended dosage is 400 IU of vitamin D from the first months of life. In particular, all infants both breastfed and formula-fed should receive vitamin D supplementation.
Vitamin K is essential for the synthesis of blood clotting factors. Its integration is recommended for infants during the first 3 months, even when prophylaxis of vitamin K has been performed at birth by intramuscular injection. In fact, its deficiency in infants, especially premature or breast fed, can cause haemorrhagic disease of the newborn, a major bleeding disorder.
